Non-equilibrium dynamics of thin films - solids, liquids and bioactive materials September 20 to 23, 2016 EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland
Dear all, We are pleased to send the first announcement for the CECAM workshop: Non-equilibrium dynamics of thin films - solids, liquids and bioactive materials September 20 to 23, 2016 EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland Please register on the CECAM website: http://www.cecam.org/workshop-0-1261.html There will be a limited number of contributed talks, with ample time for discussion, and a lively poster session. Due to funding restrictions, the number of attendees is limited to a maximum of 35. Scope of the workshop: Thin films are ubiquitous in liquid or solid-state wetting, and in cell colonies. Despite the very different underlying laws obeyed by these materials, the emerging non-equilibrium dynamics of thin films often exhibit similar behaviors, such as spreading and dewetting, pattern-forming instabilities or fluctuation-induced roughening. However, up to now there has been little interaction between the communities focusing on these different materials. The aim of the workshop is first to exchange expertise in modeling, and second to initiate bridges which may help the emergence of new directions of research. If funding allows, a small amount of grants could be available upon request for young researchers.
